Mrs Byers, described as kind, caring, helpful and loving, has worked for more than 30 years at St Stephen’s CE Primary School. The school community came together to celebrate her long-standing service with a day full of tributes and thanks.
Pupils from across the school contributed to a giant surprise card, each writing a word to describe Mrs Byers. Several children declared, “Mrs Byers is the best at first aid!”
A trip down memory lane saw pupils interview Mrs Byers about the early days of her career and how the school has changed since she started in the 1990s.
A game of "Truth or False?" based on stories from her time at St Stephen’s added humour to the day, while colleagues shared heartfelt messages.
Mrs Denny, Headteacher at St Stephen’s, said: "Thirty years of service is an incredible achievement and one that deserves to be celebrated.
"Mrs Byers has dedicated so much of her life to our school community and has touched the lives of thousands of children and families along the way.
"Her kindness, loyalty and unwavering commitment are second to none, and we are incredibly fortunate to have her as part of the St Stephen’s family.
"She is simply irreplaceable."
Mrs Byers' daughter and grandchildren were present at the celebration, making the day even more special.
One former pupil, now a parent at the school, said: "Mrs Byers taught me when I was at St Stephen’s, and now she’s helping to care for my own child.
"That says everything about the dedication she’s shown over the years.
"She has always gone above and beyond, and she is loved by so many families."
The tribute was filled with laughter and fond memories, reflecting the deep impact Mrs Byers has had on generations of pupils, families and staff.
