Key Information

PE days this half term are, Tuesday and Thursday.

Please ensure that your child comes to school in their PE kit.

Please make sure your child has a water bottle in school everyday.

Home Learning

  • Children will receive home learning on a Friday and this should be completed and returned to school the following Wednesday.
  • Children will receive spellings linked to their phonic lessons.  These can be found in your child's reading record.  They will be given on a Friday and children will have their spelling quiz the following Friday.  Please check back in their reading record for their scores.
  • Your child's reading books will be changed every Thursday. Every child will receive 2 reading books each week that are linked to their current phonic learning and will be phonically decodable. Children are encouraged to read each book more than once to build fluency.
  • Children are expected to read at least 2 times in a week.
  • Please ensure your child has their reading books in school every day.  Children read with adults in school and also participate in reading practice sessions.

Curriculum

At St Stephen's we use the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds programme.  There are some excellent videos and resources on their parents page that can help you support your child's reading journey at home. You will find a link to their website below.

By the end of Year 1 children are expected to know the number bonds to ten by heart.  You can help your child learn by practicing these at home.  Below you will find some links to app and games that will make learning number bonds fun. Enjoy!

Boost your child's recall of number facts by downloading the White Rose 1 Minute Maths app.  It links directly to our maths curriculum.

At St Stephen's we are using some brilliant resources from White Rose Maths.  They also have some resources you can access at home and work on with your child.

Over the Spring Term in Year 1 we will be looking at Addition and Subtraction (within 20), Place Value (within 50), Length and Height and Mass and Capacity.

If you would like to access the workbooks for these Spring topics, please click the links below.
