St Stephen’s CE Primary School children have been learning about the importance of Black History Month.
Throughout October, children at the school have been studying important people like Rosa Parks, Ruby Bridges, Nelson Mandela, Mary Seacole, Tessa Sanderson and Floella Benjamin.
Every child in the school wrote their own monologue, inspired by the “I have a dream speech” that Martin Luther King read speaking for equality.
They wrote about what their dreams are for the future and how they will achieve them and a variety of current world issues like ending disability discrimination, stopping the war in Ukraine, ending global warming and stopping gender stereotyping.
Parents were invited to an assembly on Friday, 20 October to watch one child from each class read their monologues and showcase their learning.
Interim Headteacher, Mrs Sally Denney said: "We are so proud of our inspirational children - they truly are the most are courageous advocates."
A parent who attended said: "It was lovely to see that the children had been so inspired by Black History Month."
