Meet the Governors

Who We Are 

Foundation Governors 

Mrs Sarah Howard – appointed in July 2017

Sarah is currently Chair of Governors and is the Training and Development Link Governor. She is a secondary school teacher with pastoral responsibilities, a former pupil and a current parent. 


Mrs Jenny Downham – appointed in March 2017

Jenny is the Safeguarding and SEND Governor. She is a retired Head of a Sixth Form College and has many years teaching experience. 


Mrs Val Eustice – appointed in September 2016

Val is the Early Years Foundation Stage Governor and Chair of the School Effectiveness and Pupil Welfare Committee. She is a retired Head Teacher. 


Mr James Roles  - appointed in October 2017

James is a Health & Safety teacher and adviser.


Revd Kathy Selby – appointed in September 2016

Kathy is minister of Bolton Road Methodist Church and is formerly a teacher.


Diocesan Foundation Governor 

Mr Harold Baxter – appointed in September 2013

Harold is the RE and Christian Values Governor.  Harold was a British Telecomm man and boy, but is now long retired.  


Ex-Officio Governor 


Mr Steve Clark - appointed in September 2017

Steve is a retired police officer and has also worked as a member of the Pastoral team at a local high school. 


Local Authority Governor 

Mrs Kim Griffiths - appointed in December 2017

Kim is a Neighbourhood Engagement Coordinator for Bury Council. 


Parent Governors 

Mr Chris Ryan – appointed in September 2015

Chris is the Numeracy Governor.


Mr Matthew Ablett – appointed in April 2016

Matthew is Vice-Chair of Governors, the Literacy Governor, the Pupil Premium Governor and is Chair of the Resources Committee.


Staff Governors

Mrs Jane Parsons – appointed in September 2016

Mrs Parsons is Head Teacher of St. Stephen’s CE Primary School


Mrs Nicola Garside – appointed in October 2017

Nicola is the Year 1 teacher and the school's SENCO.  


Associate Member

Mr Robert Haigh - appointed in November 2016 

Robert is a Diocesan School Advisor, a SIAMS inspector and a former Secondary School Head Teacher. Robert is also a Foundation Governor at St. Anne's CE Primary School, Rossendale and is Company Director of RHA Educational Consultancy Ltd.


Former Governors (2016/17) 

Mrs Susan Nuttall (LA Governor)

Sue served as Chair of Governors in the summer term of 2015/16 and at the beginning of the autumn term of 2016/17.

Sue was appointed by the Local Authority in November 2012 and she stepped down in October 2016.

Revd Steve Openshaw appointed in February 2016

Steve served as Ex-Officio Governor from February 2015 until his post ended at St. Stephen's Church in May 2017. 

Elma Hoyle – appointed in September 2016

Elma served as a Foundation Governor and stepped down in September 2017.

Annette Riley - appointed in September 2013

Annette served as a Staff Governor for 4 years and stepped down in September 2017.


Former Governors (2015/16) 


Mr Tony Parsons (Foundation Governor)

Tony served as Chair of Governors for two years until the summer term of 2015/16 and was Chair of the Finance/Staffing Committee. Tony also served on a number of other committees.

Tony was appointed by St. Stephen’s PCC in July 2014 and stepped down in May 2016. 

Mr Harry Martin (Foundation Governor)

Harry is a former Chair of Governors and had responsibilities for Health & Safety. He also served on various committees.

Harry was appointed by St. Stephen’s PCC in July 2014 and he sadly passed away in June 2016.

Mr James Roe (Foundation Governor)

James was Chair of the Health & Safety Committee and served on various committees. James was also formerly a Parent Governor.

James was appointed in July 2014 by St. Stephen’s PCC and stepped down in August 2016. 

Mrs Julia Rowlands (Head Teacher)

Mrs Rowlands was Head Teacher until January 2016 and served on the Governing Body in this role. 

Ms Rachel Pars (Acting Head Teacher)

Ms Pars was Acting Head Teacher from January 2016 until August 2016 and served on the Governing Body in this role. Ms Pars was also an Associate Governor from September 2015 to January 2016 in her role as Deputy Head.
