Maths

Here at St Stephen’s, we strive to inspire confident mathematicians who are not only fluent in number but have the necessary skills to approach and reason through rich and varied mathematical problems with self-belief. We are committed to fostering proficiency within number; children who understand the fundamentals of number and can explain ‘why’ when unpacking new concepts and consolidating the old.

Children will learn that maths is essential to everyday life and a vital practice necessary across all forms of employment, beginning to form strong connections in number to ensure concrete understanding. Children will be taught to apply their maths to solve real problems requiring critical thinking and in turn develop a genuine curiosity and love for maths that will empower and assist throughout their career in education and beyond.

This year, we are beginning an exciting journey working with NCETM Maths Hubs to further develop our offer. With the expert guidance of the Maths Hub, we aim to expand and improve the subject knowledge of our teaching staff and continually advance our pedagogical approach. We strive to achieve the best for our children and community and our new network of maths experts will ensure the delivery of high-quality education that is current and effective.

We currently use the White Rose Maths materials to deliver our curriculum. Please download our Maths Curriculum Overview below.
